LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) – Launching its organization through the first annual retreat, The Wellness Network welcomed community members to Myrick Park on Sunday.
The event had four speakers, including a psychotherapist, a yoga therapist and a spiritual teacher who worked with the retreat participants.
Organizer Arlette Rodriguez-Miller said it’s important to learn from all of these people because you can’t just work on their mind, body or spirit.
“When you’re working on your mind, your mind controls everything,” Rodriguez-Miller said. “Everything manifests in your body and then when you’re not working on the spiritual side, what does that mean for each person? It’s so different for each individual, but they all go together. So the mind, body and spirit as a whole must be taken care of.”
Retreat activities include breathing exercises, yoga, journaling, and simply learning to connect with a stranger.
Rodriguez-Miller added that even after the retreat, The Wellness Network will communicate with those who attended the event to see if the skills learned work in the long term.
She said she plans to hold at least two more retreats this year – one in the summer and one in the fall.
