Venture into the Great Sea of Sand.

Strategy Summary:

Hey everyone – today marks my return to the Springans archetype, so be sure to check out my first look at the archetype here.

For those of you who have forgotten this theme, the Springans are a group of FIRE Machines that can attach Hand, Field, or GY to Xyz Monsters as additional Xyz Material. As for Xyz Monsters, each of them offers the ability to banish themselves until the End Phase of the opponent’s turn, triggering various effects to slow the opponent while they are banished. The heart of this theme is Great Sea of Sand – Gold Golgonda, which is the theme’s Field Spell and can discard any Springans card to trick a Springans Xyz monster out of the Extra deck. The main option you will invoke most often is spring reveler, a Rank 4 Xyz that sends a Springans monster from the Deck to the Graveyard upon Summoning. The other unique Springans map is Springan Brotherswhich Special Summons another Springans when discarded or sent from the Deck to the Graveyard, and Springans Branga, which can banish itself and another Springans monster from the Graveyard to instruct a Springans card! However, all that Springans power only goes so far, so let’s introduce the Albaz-centric second half of the game.

In the recent Structure Deck for the OCG, Albaz’s strategy received a slew of new support for the benefit of the Brand merger (YGOrg translation) monsters. Fallen from Albaz remains the base monster, providing the ability to merge with monsters your opponent controls when summoned, but the new Structure Deck has brought Springans Kitt (YGOrg translation) and Tri-Brigade Mercourier (YGOrg translation) in play. Kitt can be Special Summoned from the hand whenever you have a Fusion Albaz on the field or in the Graveyard, and he teaches a Mark Spell/Traps upon summoning, before returning any other cards from the hand in the deck. However, Mercourier can be discarded to negate a monster effect while you control an Albaz Fusion. Combine them with Marked Paradise (YGOrg translation) and Marked in a good mood, and you have search options that greatly expand the traditional Springan playing patterns. Before long, you may even notice that you have an infinite amount of cards in hand for future discards, because Marked in a good mood, Incredible Ecclesia, the virtuousand your Albaz Fusions will start giving you more cards in your hand during the endgame, especially when your board suffers disturbances such as Mirrorjade the Iceblade Dragon (YGOrg translation) fuel your continued ascent. Explode on stage with the Springans!
