Richmond, Virginia – What begins as a once-in-a-lifetime experience with substances for many people leads them down a slippery path to full-blown substance use disorder, which sometimes turns fatal. As a result, family members have to deal with the consequences, and many seek practical solutions for their loved ones to rescue them from the clutches of drug addiction. McShin Foundation was founded in 2004 to equip people in recovery with the tools to change their lives and create positive lifestyles. Their staff are spreading the word of recovery and showing people that recovery is possible! They offer sober living in recovery homes, a 28-day recovery program akin to addiction treatment, and have partnered with top doctors dealing with drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

“Coming to the McShin Foundation gave me the opportunity to grow while participating in a program. It works – it helped me. I was shown a lot of love in this program and had the opportunity to sit down and address some of the issues that I have had in my life. I am grateful to McShin for allowing me to come here when I had nowhere to go,” said one of the patients.

The 28-day residential program is a treatment program that combines clinical and authentic peer-recovery support services to bring lasting results. Participants are housed in safe halfway houses and offered personalized recovery coaching as well as recovery education and relapse prevention groups. Additionally, participants who require drug or medical services receive partnerships with medical drug addiction, addiction psychiatry, and therapy. The program seeks to incorporate fun activities and shows participants that recovery can be fun – participants go rafting, rock climbing, visit museums and organize their own recovery events.

Recovery residences are open and accessible throughout the year for anyone ready to begin or continue their recovery journey. People recovering in the residences have access to addiction treatment in Richmond and Glen Allen. They are provided with a safe space, structure and accountability plans to help them rebuild their lives. As part of the accountability plan, sober residents must attend weekly community meetings and sign up for a recovery journey. McShin Foundation staff are certified by the Virginia Association of Recovery Residences (VARR) and are highly skilled and trained to work empathically with all recovering individuals and their families.

The McShin Foundation also runs prison recovery programs for inmates who need help recovering from substance use disorders in correctional facilities.
