Earlier this year, the Shreveport-Bossier Convention and Tourist Bureau (SBCTB) hired an outside firm to conduct an assessment of the organizational structure of the SBCTB and the Shreveport-Bossier Sports Commission (SBSC), a division of the SBCTB. A key finding of this review was that the Sports Commission would benefit from utilizing the expertise and resources of all staff in the office and not just those specifically assigned to sports. This realignment mirrors similar successful models of other tourism boards and athletic commissions across the country.
“The Sports Commission was originally designed to use the full strength of the office, but in recent years it has become more separate. This new structure will help us advance the sports market more strategically, effectively and efficiently. integrated,” said Stacy Brown, president of the SBCTB.
The Shreveport-Bossier Athletic Commission and its advisory board will continue to operate as before, as the development of sporting events remains a priority for the SBCTB and SBSC.
As part of this reorganisation, the position of Executive Director within the Sports Committee has been eliminated and Kelly Wells is no longer employed at the SBSC.
“Kelly Wells has played a major role in the growth of sports in Shreveport-Bossier, such as bringing Olympic qualifying events, state championships and recreational sporting events to our market. We thank him for his contributions and wish him well in his new endeavors,” Brown said.
