Mercer County Federation of Fraternal and Social Organizations

The Mercer County Federation of Fraternal and Social Organizations gathered for their monthly meeting at the Reynolds VFW. Thank you, Reynolds, for your hospitality and for the delicious post-meeting meal.

The meeting was opened by President Larry Scheetz. The members were welcomed to the club by Commander Reasch.

Guest speakers were Bradley Allen Mercer County, Director of Veterans Affairs, Mercer, and Lisa McCoy of the Prince of Peace Center, Farrell.

The roll call showed four officers, two auditors and the unit’s attorney. Eleven were represented.

In the legislative framework, the bill requiring clubs to retain all profits from small games of chance until December 31 has been adopted.

As part of new business, Mary Ellen Flynn was elected second vice-president.

Events to come:

• August 9 – West Middlesex VFW will host a fried steak from 4 p.m.;

• West Middlesex VFW Auxiliary organizes a flea market every Thursday;

• August 14 – federation picnic at Shiners in Hermitage;

• August 19 – D-Day Living History Event in Conneaut, Ohio; August 20 – Operation Support our Community Cash & Gun Bash, Reynolds VFW;

• August 25 to 29 – Moving Wall visits Hermitage (next to Flynn’s funeral home), motorcycle escorts needed, anyone interested should visit or contact Bradley Allen, Veterans Affairs, at 724-662-7511;

• September 13 – Military part in the armory of Grove City; noon to 5 p.m.

• September 24 – Veterans Gathering at the Sharon Elks, all veterans are invited, contact Sheetz at [email protected] or call or text 724-977-1200.

The next meeting will be September 26 at the Sharon American Legion.
