SALT LAKE CITY, UT, USA, Feb. 15, 2022 / — More than 130 senior executives from health plans, health systems, healthcare providers and technology partner organizations voted on the 10 key critical focus areas impacting their organizations in the New Year.

The HealthCare Executive Group (HCEG), a 34-year-old non-profit networking and leadership organization, presented members of the HCEG network with a list of 21 priority areas compiled from annual member contributions, events held throughout along 2021, from previous Top 10 HCEG lists and industry research. These senior health officials then selected and ranked ten items representing the priorities for 2022. This month-long multi-step process resulted in the HCEG Top 10 Priorities for 2022:

1. Cost: price, benefits and transparency
2. Consumerism: Aligned, Centered and Engaged Health Care
3. Accessibility: primary care, points of service and transformation of care
4. Delivery: Transform to Achieve the Quadruple Aim
5. Health: individual, population and public health
6. Digital: value-creating technologies and tools
7. Leadership: talent, strategy and work environment
8. Payment: value-based, collaborative and fair
9. Data: Liquidity, Interoperability and Analytics
10. External: political, governmental and non-traditional entities

Foundational areas survive as pandemic highlights new priorities

“One word has changed our world of health: COVID! noted Ferris W. Taylor, Executive Director of HCEG. “The pandemic has imposed dramatic changes at an unprecedented rate on all healthcare organizations. New challenges replaced previous priorities while the importance of other areas changed. While costs, consumerism and accessibility remain at the top, it is clear that addressing social determinants on a personalized, holistic and population-wide basis using value-creating digital technologies are key areas of intervention. The leadership, talent and work environment needed to meet health care priorities has become a priority in itself.

Ferris added: “Listening to members of the HCEG Network, the remaining focus areas are seen as core priorities applicable across the entire healthcare delivery ecosystem. For example, while clearly an important area to watch, privacy and security fell just outside the top ten priorities this year. Having the Top 10 list helps us focus our thought leadership discussions, events, and networking opportunities for the year ahead.
