National organization recognizes Cactus Yards as the best facility in the country

A national youth sports governing body recognized a Gilbert facility as the best in the country for this year.

The Specialty Sports Association of the United States named Cactus Yards its National Resort of the Year at the 2021 USSSA National Convention in Orlando.

The prize will be presented to Gilbert’s municipal council on December 14 board meeting.

Cactus Yards, 4536 E. Elliot Road, Gilbert, has previously been recognized as Outstanding Park of the Year by the USSSA Arizona Baseball Chapter in 2019 and 2020. The award is voted on by coaches and players who competed in the 2020 USSSA youth baseball season across Arizona.

Robert Carmona, director of parks and recreation for Gilbert, said in a statement that the city is honored to receive the award and thanked the council and the office of the city manager for their vision of creating a facility with a big impact. at the national, regional and urban level.

“The staff at Cactus Yards take pride in customer service and creating a safe and friendly experience for all visitors to the park, and I am incredibly proud of their efforts since the facility opened in 2019,” said he declared.

Founded in 1968, USSSA has more than four million participants competing in 14 nationally sanctioned sports and in more than 1,000 parks across the country.

The city took over the operation of the former Big League Dreams facility and renamed it Cactus Yards in 2019.
