I teach at the university level. FIRE is a non-partisan organization

dedicated to the protection of freedom of expression on university campuses. I’m sure the admin has his side of the story. I hope that FIRE represents Lohr and that he sues her and VT. His behavior was VERY inappropriate.

There is an administrative-industrial complex on college campuses that has grown steadily over the past 30 years. For the most part, it is made up of average minds who lack critical thinking and professional judgment skills and who have a notable authoritarian orientation.

They are in love with their own power and think they know what is best for everyone. It would be laughable if it didn’t change the face of higher education.

We are quickly reaching a new dominant low. Anything that offends the bureaucrat is now prohibited.

I remember when universities were places full of radical ideas, heated debates, and a search for truth and knowledge that led to exciting conflicts of ideas.

No more. Line up. Behave as we say – precisely as we say. Or you are punished.

I quit a full-time teaching job and am just an assistant, in part, because of this nonsense. I know I take this discussion away from the football fan, but I think it’s all part of the same culture and ecosystem within universities.
