Visit The County, Prince Edward County’s new Destination Marketing Organization (DMO), takes another step closer to reality with the appointment of its first Board of Directors.

From a pool of 33 candidates, the Municipal Nominating Committee recommended and County Council approved the following trustees: Christal Agostino, Mikki Arends, Rachel Baque, Sarah Doiron, Sherry Karlo, Rebecca Mackenzie and Charles McKee . The council appointed John Hirsch as its representative on the DMO board. Public trustees will serve a two-year term, while the appointed councilor will serve until the end of the term of this Council.

The DMO is a not-for-profit entity responsible for promoting the community as an attractive travel destination and enhancing its public image as a vibrant place to live, work and play. He will work closely with the county to address tourism management as well as marketing.

The council also agreed to Mayor Ferguson inviting the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte to appoint an additional trustee to the county’s first visiting council, on the recommendation of the nominating committee.

Visit The County’s first board meeting will take place later this month following the June 21, 2022 Board meeting and legal incorporation. Further opportunities to get involved with Visit The County through working groups and/or committees are planned and are part of early discussions with the Board of Directors.

Visit The County should seek candidates for the full-time position of Strategic Implementation Manager who will work with tourism stakeholders and partner organizations/associations to support the day-to-day operations of Visit The County. With the help of county staff, the new council will likely launch a competition later this month, and the contract could be awarded for the position in August.

Agreement reached with Stay PEC on the municipal accommodation tax

The municipality has reached an agreement with Stay PEC on its share of the municipal accommodation tax (MAT).

At the June 9 Committee of the Whole meeting, the Board agreed to recognize Stay PEC as a self-sustaining tourism entity, eligible for a portion of MAT revenue due to its legal status prior to the establishment of the MAT County framework. In consultation with members of the Stay PEC Board of Directors, a Financial Accountability Agreement was created between the County and Stay PEC to honor the legal obligation to recognize them as an eligible entity. The agreement also expresses the willingness of the two DMOs to work in partnership to support tourism marketing and management.
