Cajun Navy Organization Assisting in Tornado Relief Efforts

Days after tornadoes ravaged several states, including Kentucky, Arkansas and Illinois, relief efforts from the southern states are moving north.

The Cajun Navy Land Force team is currently located in Kentucky, where at least 74 people died During the epidemic. They say supplies, food, warm clothing, propane, blankets, and water are just a few of the supplies needed. They are also looking for volunteers to help with relief efforts.

“We are motivated by the challenges our neighbors face to come out and become the gatekeepers of the community for those who need our help, and to do the work that cannot be done alone,” said Rob Gaudet, Founder of the Land Force of the Cajun Navy. “We are called to stand up for what we know in our hearts to be morally correct and essential. Something has brought us here to serve, to meet and, inevitably, to become family.”

The group has set up a Swift Action Force emergency camp in Mayfield, where volunteers will set up a base. From there, they will organize smaller groups to visit communities, assess needs, deliver supplies, ensure communication, etc.

Organizers say they will also need volunteers to deliver meals throughout the area and bring in fuel supplies and cell phone towers.
